look what we're working on in reading!
We are well into our preparation for the state ELA test. In class, the focus has been on reading and annotating short texts. We use sample passages from previous years in order to provide a more authentic reading experience. So far we’ve focused on both fiction and nonfiction passages. Before answering questions, we have the students annotate the text. For fiction texts, students make note of the characters, setting, plot, point of view and theme. For nonfiction structures, students annotate with jots about main idea and supporting details. They also look closely at text structures (ex: chronological, cause/effect, compare/contrast, description, and problem/solution).
